The good: Clear and simple instructions; Quick email communications; 5 months for the entire process; Reasonable fee. Things that could have gone better: (1) The biggest step was to send a bunch of documents via UPS, and I didn’t get confirmation of those documents arriving safely until I actively emailed and asked. (2) Once everything was done and I was told the money would be transferred in a few days, it wasn’t, and that was a little stressful. When I emailed to ask what’s up, the matter was handled quickly—some more info about my bank account was needed. Then a few days later the funds were transferred to my account successfully. All in all, I was very happy with Fundsback, and would definitely recommend it to others who worked in Germany temporarily like me. Of course, I wish I didn’t have to use a service like this, and that the German system made things simpler for foreigners to begin with.

They handled everything for me and overall it was super easy. They were responsive when I had questions, and I didn't have to write any lengthy letters in German myself, which is all totally worthy of five stars. But just to know for the future, notaries in the US aren't lawyers like in Germany, so they're very limited in their scope and authority. This meant that the notary I went to was initially very confused about what I was actually asking for (since "verifying my identity" isn't something she could technically do). We came up with a solution that involved a handwritten attestation scrawled across the photocopy of my ID with my signature (or something like that), and I got the documents notarized, but even so I wasn't certain that what I was mailing in was actually sufficient for the German authorities, and the notary didn't know either. It would have been nice to feel more confident about what I was sending in, but I'm not sure what Fundsback could really do to help that.

Instead of using their shady & fraud services, reach out to DRV via email yourself. Listing my horrible experience pointers as below: 1. They get YOUR REFUND MONEY in THEIR OWN BANK account. I explicitly asked not to do that & did not sign bank form, still they used their bank ac for refund instead of mine. 2. They take credit of speedy process but its DRV that acts quickly if documents are complete. This firm has nothing to do with quick turnaround as they are not the ones approving or processing refund. 3. They only take documents from you, get signatures & send to DRV. For that, they charge 9.75% and in case of any queries from DRV or additional documents, they charge additional fees. Completely useless firm 4. They GO SILENT & stop responding after receiving refund from DRV in their banks. I escalated the matter to Cofounder - Oliver & he was useless guy too. Camilo managed my case & he is evil + cunning guy who stops responding once he gets refund money from DRV. I asked for proof / tracking number for transaction & till date haven't received anything. 5. They closed my case when I was still waiting for refund money which they deceitfully took in their banks. I kept writing emails but Cofounder also did not provide status of my payment.

After 5 years of procrastinating on applying for my pension refund, not willing to pay for paid services to do it on my behalf, and getting stuck with the hassle of admin work of doing it myself, I finally gave up and decided to use a paid service to do it for me, and I'm glad i did that. The process with Fundsback was super smooth. The whole thing took 4:5 months altogether, with me being the bottleneck on providing some documents for 2 of those. But once I gave them the documents they needed, which they even helped me with figuring out how/where to get it, they handled everything with the Finanzamt, and 3 months later the money was in my account.
